Zero Exponent

Definition

Any nonzero base raised to the power of zero equals one. This follows from the pattern of dividing by the base and from the quotient rule.

Examples

  • 5⁰=1, 100⁰=1, x⁰=1 (for x≠0).
  • Exception: 0⁰ is undefined.

Key rule

Anything (except 0) to the zero power equals 1.

Memory hook

Any nonzero base to the zero power is 1.
