X-Intercept
8.F.A.3
Definition
The point where a graph crosses the x-axis, where the y-value equals zero. Found by setting y to zero and solving for x.
Examples
- For y = 2x - 6: set y=0, solve 0=2x-6, x=3. X-intercept is (3, 0).
- The x-intercept always has a y-coordinate of 0.
Key rule
Set y = 0 and solve for x to find the x-intercept.
Memory hook
