Translation
HSG-CO.A.5
Definition
A transformation that slides every point of a figure the same distance in the same direction.
Examples
- Sliding triangle ABC to triangle A'B'C' without turning or flipping it is a translation.
- Moving a figure 3 units right and 2 units up is a translation.
Key rule
A translation keeps the figure's size, shape, and orientation the same.
Memory hook
Slide it — same size, same direction, no turning.
