Definition
The total area of all the surfaces (faces) of a three-dimensional figure.
Examples
- Surface area is the sum of the areas of all the outer faces of a solid, in square units.
- A cube with side 4 has 6 faces of 16 square units each, for a surface area of 96 square units.
Key rule
Add the areas of every outer face to find surface area.
