8.EE.B.6 · 8.F.A.3 · 8.SP.A.3
Definition
The constant rate of change of a linear function, equal to rise over run. It tells how much the output changes for each unit increase in the input.
Examples
- In f(x) = 2x + 1, the slope is 2 — output rises 2 each time input rises 1.
- Slope = rise ÷ run.
Key rule
Slope is the constant rate of change for a linear function.
