Slope Formula
8.F.B.4
Definition
A formula for finding the slope between two points, equal to the difference in y-values divided by the difference in x-values, taken in the same order.
Examples
- Points (1,3) and (4,9): slope = (9-3)/(4-1) = 6/3 = 2.
- Keep the order consistent — top and bottom must subtract in the same direction.
Key rule
Subtract the y-values and x-values in the same order, then divide.
Memory hook
Rise over run, from any two points.
