Prediction
8.SP.A.3
Definition
An estimate of an output value made by substituting a new input into a data model's equation. Predictions are most reliable within the range of the observed data.
Examples
- For 6 hours: y=8(6)+50=98 points predicted.
- Predicting far outside the data range is risky — the trend may not continue.
Key rule
Plug the new input into the model's equation to predict the output.
Memory hook
Use the model to estimate a new value.
