Multi-Step Problem

7.EE.B.3

Definition

A problem requiring two or more different mathematical operations to solve. Plan the steps, then execute them in order.

Examples

  • A $25 shirt at 20% off, then 8% tax: discount $5, sale price $20, tax $1.60, final $21.60.
  • Each step builds on the previous — show all steps, don't jump to the answer.

Key rule

Plan your steps before calculating — identify what you know and what you need.

Memory hook

Break it into steps, then work each one.
