HSG-C.A.2

Definition

The minor arc is the shorter arc (under 180 degrees), the major arc the longer (over 180 degrees).

Examples

  • A minor arc measures less than 180 degrees, such as 80 degrees.
  • A major arc measures more than 180 degrees, such as 280 degrees.

Key rule

Together, a minor and major arc from the same two points always add up to 360 degrees.

Memory hook

Minor is the short way around, major is the long way.
