Linear Function
8.F.A.3
Definition
A function whose graph is a straight line and whose rate of change is constant. It can be written in the form y equals m x plus b.
Examples
- Equal steps in x (+2, +2, +2) produce a straight line.
- f(x) = mx + b is the standard form of a linear function.
Key rule
A linear function has a constant slope and a straight-line graph.
Memory hook
Straight line, steady rate of change.
