Evaluate a Function
Algebra 1 · Functions & Sequences
Definition
To evaluate a function is to substitute an input value into a function and compute the output.
Examples
- If f(x) = 2x + 1, then f(3) = 7.
- If g(x) = x^2, then g(4) = 16.
Key rule
Replace x with the input, then simplify.
Memory hook
Evaluate = plug in the number and work it out.
