Definition
Splitting a unit fraction by a whole number, or a whole number by a unit fraction.
Examples
- 1/3 divided by 3 = 1/9 (a unit fraction split into more, smaller pieces).
- 3 divided by 1/5 = 15 (a whole number split into fifths gives more pieces).
Key rule
Dividing by a unit fraction gives more, smaller pieces than the whole.
Memory hook
Dividing by a fraction makes more pieces, not fewer.
